The Rose and Crown is a 19th century coaching inn and hotel that has been fully refurbished, and opened its door on the 1st May 2025. We are an independent family business, a village pub with bedrooms and a restaurant serving locally sourced, seasonal dishes – seven days a week.
WE ARE AN INDEPENDENT FAMILY BUSINESS
OUR STORY IS A LONG AND THRILLING TALE - IF YOU'D LIKE TO HEAR IT STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSES MOUTH, THEN YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
It begins at the turn of the century, with Jim & Sharon, who embarked on a journey together as restaurateurs. The business was built upon simple foundations: honest food, that’s prepared and cooked with care using quality ingredients – combined with warm and welcoming hospitality.
They set sail on Wednesday 22nd November 2000, when they got their hands on the keys to the Jackson Stops Inn at Stretton. Since then our voyage has stopped successfully at many ports along the way – Jim’s Yard in Stamford, Jim’s Bistro on Broadway, The Beehive on Albert Place and the Queens Head at Bulwick. We opened our door at the Six Bells in Witham on the Hill in July 2014. In 2004 we were awarded the coveted Bib Gourmand from MICHELIN Guide. Recognition we received twelve years on the trot, through to 2015 – for good cooking and good value.
Meet the team at Rose & Crown
In 2021 after the covid pandemic Jim and Sharon stepped away from the business, with Lauren and James taking the wheel thereafter. Since then, the grade II listed Six Bells has seen major works, and in March 2023 we rekindled our love affair with MICHELIN’s Bib Gourmand as one of 20 new recipients in the UK & Ireland.
Last year was a milestone one, we were delighted to sign a twenty-year lease at the Rose & Crown – becoming a group once again.
Nathan, Sophie, Laura and Rachel moved across to help us establish the team in Thorney and were joined by a bright crop of new faces. 2026 is off to a great start – we retained our Bib Gourmand in February at the Six Bells for a fourth successive year, and we now have a website at the Rose & Crown!
Heading into our first sping in Thorney – lots of exciting things to talk about. If you’d like to hear about new wines arriving on the list, the weekly changing auberge menu, and other bits and bobs – subscribe to our newsletter.
